A mezzanine platform was the solution we arrived at when a customer asked us to design, engineer and install a safe access point to a hydrogen peroxide tank.
Accessing a hydrogen peroxide tank for filling and maintenance is no easy task. When you also factor in that the tank is sitting in a pit that is eight feet below ground level, the task becomes even more daunting. But our dedicated team of designers, engineers, and builders rose to the challenge.
The platform had to be both sturdy enough to support the weight of multiple workers, while also meeting OSHA requirements for safety and fall protection.
Mezzanine Platform from Concept to Completion
SSI was tasked with designing, engineering, and installing an equipment platform, constructed from metal grating, around a hydrogen peroxide tank so workers could safely and easily reach the tank hatch for filling and maintenance. Our team went to work taking measurements of the space that needed to be covered, measuring of the distance from the tank to the railing and measurements of the space needed to easily open and close the tank hatch.
By using Unistrut for the structural supports and aluminum bar grating for the platform, our team was able to come up with a solution that met both the customer needs and OSHA’s requirements.
After the design was approved, our team went to working installing the new bar grating platform which was completely finished in just under 1- 1/2 days. The platform met every requirement and the customer was so pleased with the job that they placed 3 more orders for custom platforms to be installed in other locations in their plant.
